Responsibilities:
- Lead legal negotiations with private investors and DFIs (including IFC and World Bank)
- Support launch of Burundi’s first private electricity distribution utility, ensuring alignment with global best practices
- Oversee legal frameworks for HR, business integrity, and employment matters
- Advise on government and stakeholder engagement strategies
- Manage local legal, tax, and advisory relationships and oversee external counsel
- Lead the firm’s regulatory and funder compliance efforts
- Mitigate legal, commercial, and reputational risks in procurement
- Negotiate and oversee construction and infrastructure contracts
- Handle day-to-day legal matters: contracts, real estate, imports, tax, insurance, and employee benefits
Qualifications:
- Licensed attorney (U.S., U.K., France, Burundi) with 10+ years of experience
- Direct exposure to IFC and World Bank processes
- Strong project finance background in energy or infrastructure
- Prior in-house legal experience in Africa, preferably with a multinational
- Knowledge of civil and common law systems
- Skilled in working with cross-functional teams (engineering, finance, E&S)
- Full professional fluency in English and French
